What Does It Mean to Believe?
Mark 9:23 · AMP
Devotional
Jesus did not answer the father's question. He redirected it. The father said if You can, placing the limitation on Jesus. Jesus immediately returned it, if you can? The limitation was never with Jesus. It was with belief. All things are possible. Not some things. Not things that make sense. Not things that fit within your current capacity or budget or network. All things, for the one who believes. But believing is not passive agreement. It is not nodding at a theological statement. The Greek word here is pisteuō, it means to trust, to commit, to have faith that expresses itself in action. It is active. It is relational. It is a posture of the whole person, mind, will, and emotion, turned toward God with confident trust. The Chayil woman who walks in the fullness of Believe has settled something in her spirit that circumstances cannot shake. She has moved past hoping things will work out and crossed into the territory of knowing that God is who He says He is and she is who He says she is. This is where everything begins. Not with strategy. Not with resources. Not with connections. With belief.
Chayil Declaration
All things are possible for me because I believe and trust in God. My belief is not passive, it is active, relational, and expressed in how I live. I believe what God says about Himself and what He says about me.
Reflection Question
What is the gap between what you say you believe and how you actually live, and what would closing that gap require?
